The Kolkata Knight Riders came up against the King’s XI Punjab in Mohali yesterday and ended a three-match losing streak with a superb display.
Captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and decided to bat first. This proved to be a wise decision as his team put on 183-5 from their 20 overs.
The King’s team came out to bat but fell 39 runs short of the target, the second biggest loss for any team in the IPL this season.
I was getting a little worried about this game for the Knights. With three consecutive losses under their belts it could have been a disaster for the team had they lost this game.
It’s good to see Chris Gayle in the team. When he’s on form he’s unstoppable. In this game he went off like a rocket smashing poor old Brett Lee to the boundary on several occasions in the first over, and it took a superb catch from Srivastava on the boundary to get rid of him.
I like the bowling of Shane Bond who’s quick and lively and certainly knows how to restrict the run rate. I think the Knights have a good bowling attack with some world-class batsmen. This could be the turn around the Knights needed to get them back among the front-runners again.
Next up is an away trip to the Delhi Daredevils on Monday 29 March.
Here’s a match report.
